What a remap does for a diesel BMW 7 Series
On a diesel the ECU decides how much fuel is injected and how hard the turbo works. A remap adjusts those calibrations within safe limits, so the gains show up mainly as extra torque low in the rev range and smoother, more responsive pull.
BMW 740d 245 (e38) against other 7 Series engines
Of the 8 diesel 7 Series engines in our data, this one comes 6th for power gain, which is 3 bhp below the 7 Series diesel average of 37 bhp.
Across our whole catalogue the average diesel remap adds 34 bhp and 73 Nm, so this engine's 34 bhp and 85 Nm sits at or above that benchmark.
